Activating your license
Gridmux runs as the free Base edition until you activate a license key. Activating unlocks the Extended features for your tier.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need a license key. After buying Gridmux through the checkout, the key is sent to you by email (and shown on the purchase confirmation). Gridmux itself has no account — you simply paste the key into the app.
Activate
Section titled “Activate”- Open Settings in Gridmux — from the menu bar (View → Settings), by
clicking the gear icon (⚙) in the top-right, or with the keyboard
shortcut
Ctrl+,(rebindable). Then go to the License section. - In the Base view you’ll see “You’re using the free version.” and a License key field.
- Paste your key into the field.
- Click Activate.
While the key is checked, the button shows “Activating…”. On success, the edition unlocks and the License section re-renders to show your active edition.
If the key can’t be activated, an error appears below the field — for example “Invalid license key.”, or “Activation failed. Check your connection and try again.” if Gridmux couldn’t reach the licensing service. Fix the issue and click Activate again.
What unlocks
Section titled “What unlocks”- Extended (one-time or subscription) unlocks Aliases, local Templates (export / import), Git remote (push / pull / fetch / clone and access-token storage — see Source Control), session export / import to file, and raises the capacity limits (more workspaces, unlimited terminals per workspace).
- Extended Subscription additionally unlocks Team Template, Cloud Sync, and Remote (Android client).
See Pricing for the full per-tier breakdown.
After activation
Section titled “After activation”The License section reflects your active edition:
- Extended (One-Time Purchase) — shows your edition, a masked license key, an ”✓ Active” status, and a Deactivate button.
- Extended (Subscription) — shows the same, plus “Cloud Sync: Enabled” and a Manage subscription button that opens your customer portal in the browser (to view invoices, change, or cancel the subscription). Deactivating is also available here.
Your license is stored encrypted on your machine, so the edition stays unlocked across restarts.
Deactivating
Section titled “Deactivating”Click Deactivate to return to the free Base edition. Gridmux asks for confirmation (“You’ll return to the free version. Your data won’t be deleted.”) before deactivating. Your workspaces, aliases, and other data are kept.
